Last night was kind of a fail, dinner-wise. Except for the fact that dinner turned out great. Let me explain.
I realised that I have fallen back into really just cooking safe bet meals lately. It was conscious while we were away in Italy, because that’s the only way for me to also have a bit of a vacation. But since we got back it has been more an effect of not really planning out meals and not really having enough time to cook more than the usual favourites. So this weekend I was determined to try something new.
I ended up making sticky sesame cauliflower and pineapple fried rice – two recipes that have been hanging out on my pinterest board Little Vegetarians for a while, just waiting for me to try. I lessened the sriracha in the cauliflower and skipped the ham in the fried rice, and both recipes were really easy to make and turned out really delicious.
But – the kids weren’t in the mood and all three basically refused to even taste and ended up having oatmeal for dinner instead. My children haven’t tried a lot of Chinese-inspired flavours before, so I’ll chalk it up to that, I guess. But if you are braver than I am – try these recipes with your littles and let me know how you do!
And check out more of the good stuff I’m planning to cook for dinner here!
